With 400 patents spanning a 50-year career, Stan Ovshinsky, together with his wife Iris, developed an array of energy and information-related inventions that advanced many technologies and industries--all in pursuit of a vision of a hydrogen-based economy.

Driven by a love of science as well as strongly held social convictions, Stan Ovshinsky's wide-ranging interests took him from the study of how certain types of materials perform to how the human mind itself processes information. His striking insights and surprising connections have helped to enable the devices we use every day--from computer memory, liquid crystal displays, electric and hybrid vehicles to solar energy systems and more.
